How it works
Pick your file. The browser reads it straight from disk. There is no upload progress bar, because there is no upload.
The encoder loads once. A WebAssembly build of FFmpeg, around 30 MB, downloads the first time you use the site and stays cached afterwards.
Your processor does the work. Everything happens in this tab, at roughly half of real time on a modern laptop.
Save the result. The finished file is assembled in memory and handed to your downloads folder.
When pulling out the audio is the right move
A recorded lecture, a Zoom call, a band practice filmed on a phone — in all of these the picture is dead weight. An MP3 of the same recording is roughly a tenth of the size and plays in any car, any podcast app and any voice recorder.
It also solves a storage problem. An hour of 1080p video runs a couple of gigabytes; the same hour as a 192 kbps MP3 is about 85 MB.
For transcription services, dictation apps and audio editors like Audacity, MP3 is usually the format that gets accepted without complaint.
Which bitrate to pick
For speech — interviews, lectures, meetings — 128 kbps is genuinely enough and keeps the file small. For music, go to 320 kbps, because compression artefacts in cymbals and reverb tails become audible at lower settings. 192 kbps is the sensible default when the recording contains both.

Common questions
Does the video quality affect the MP3?
No. The audio track inside an MP4 is stored separately from the picture, so a low-resolution video can still hold perfectly clean sound.
Can I convert other video formats?
Yes. MOV, M4V and most MP4 variants are accepted. The tool reads whatever audio track it finds and encodes it to MP3.
Is any quality lost?
A small amount, since the audio is decoded and re-encoded. At 192 kbps and above the difference is inaudible for almost everyone on almost any equipment.
Do my files get uploaded?
